SILENT SCREEN GREATS: THE LEGENDARY RUDOLPH VALENTINO

Written by  on April 8, 2014

rv1

His full name was Rodolfo Alfonso Raffaello Pierre Filibert Gugliemi di Valentina d’Antonguolla, but to the movie-going public of the 192os, he was better known as  Rudolph Valentino ,  the silent-screen romantic hero aka “The Latin Lover’.He starred in such silent-screen classics  as ‘The Shiek’, ‘The Four Horsemen Of The Apocolypse’, ‘Blood & Sand’, ‘The Eagle’ and ‘Son Of The Shiek’.Every generation has their own icons/heroes and this man in his day was as big as any.Shortly before he died at the age of 31, he had applied for American citizenship; his untimely passing not only caused  mass-hysteria amongst his female fans, but was also the catalyst for his lofty elevation to iconic status and enduring legend of the cinema, the world over.

HEART-THROB AVENUE

Written by  on April 7, 2014

hta1

A gallery of 1950’s heart-throbs  – some were bad boys, some were good, some starred on the big-screen, some on the small screen and some starred on both; some went on to become legends and icons of a era/genre.One thing is indisputably evident… all of these men were blessed with Adonis-like looks and a stirring charisma – read into that what you will!

THE SUBLIME ART OF TOSHIAKI KATO

Written by  on April 7, 2014

TK1

Toshiaki Kato is a Japanese artist whose sublime artwork features a breath-taking amount of detail, colour and texture. He appears to draw a large part of his inspiration from the works of Shakespeare, fairy tales, the notorious ‘femme-fatale’ and even iconic figures from history, specifically Joan Of Arc.The beautifully-realised artwork above is his take on Franco Zeferelli’s 1968 film version of ‘Romeo And Juliet’; of personal interest to me is the high-fashion element he brings to his art which is in evidence throughout and especially in this painting.

ON A 1960’s LONDON STREET…

Written by  on April 6, 2014

ss1

It’s London, it’s the mid 1960s and the city is the epicentre of the fashion/pop-culture universe;  here are some fabulous mod looks direct from the street as they happened. As well as the professional models, there are snaps of some ordinary punters/fashionistas (long before the term was invented!) in their groovy threads, not to mention a sprinkling of ‘A-list’ celebrities with the iconic 60’s fashion model Twiggy,  Mia Farrow, George (James Bond) Lazenby and the Small Faces all displaying their London/Mod street cred from one of the most unforgettable eras England has ever known…
