One of the legendary Barbie doll’s most iconic outfits is the 1960’s ensemble: “Solo In The Spotlight”.The doll, but most especially this particular outfit, will  remain intrinsically linked with me and my personal development. From the moment I first laid eyes on it in an early 1963 Mattel advertisement, I was besotted. Here is a small hommage to childhood inspiration/motivation/aspiration!

TINA CASSINI: 1960’S FASHION DOLL

Written by  on March 17, 2014

TC1

Tina Cassini, a rare, high-fashion doll from the 1960’s, shared her surname with her famous creator – the legendary fashion designer, Oleg Cassini .The doll was actually named after/for Cassini and his famous actress-wife Gene Tierney’s daughter, Tina Cassini. Quite naturally, Cassini (whose most celebrated client was First-Lady Jackie Kennedy)  designed the Tina doll’s glamourous wardobe of high fashion outfits, which you can see below in reproduction pages from the original fashion booklet which accompanied the doll. The Tina Cassini doll was manufactured by Ross Products, Inc. in British Hong Kong. She is a vinyl, 12″ doll with rooted, bubblecut hair, which came in two shades – blonde or brunette. The doll was introduced in 1964 and appeared in the Sears catalogue in 1965; she is very similar to Ideal’s Tammy and the British, Pedigree Sindy doll and is particularly appealing to/sought after by fashionistas as well as fashion doll collectors, due to the Cassini name and the part Oleg Cassinit  played in fashion/pop culture history.

TOO COOL FOR (OLD) SCHOOL: “SECOND HOMES FOR LEISURE LIVING”

Written by  on March 16, 2014

Second Homes Leisure Living

From the American 1960 publication: “Second Homes For Leisure Living” by the Douglas Fir Plywood Association, comes this marvellous set of  home-planning illustrations depicting a variety of ‘Lake-Houses’ which are (first and foremost) impossibly-cool (thanks to their talented illustrator Bob Wandsforde) but also  wonderfully representative of a long-gone era (not to mention) a particularly affluent/wealthy group of early 1960’s society!
