The ‘Classics Illustrated Junior’ title was a line of children’s comics originally published by The Gilberton Company Inc which featured many famous fairy tales and other chidren’s classics. The series nicely completed the famous ‘Classics Illustrated’¬† publication which concentrated on adult classics from the world of literature. The Classics Junior series debuted in October 1953 with an adaption of ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarves’ by the Brothers Grimm and illustrated by Alex Blum. The Classics Junior series ran right up until 1971 and at its peak in 1960, it had an average monthly circulation of 262,000.Thankfully, for vintage comic aficionados, the series was reprinted in the UK by the Classic Comic Store Ltd in 2008 for a short period, also selling in the Republic Of Ireland, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Most of the titles shown here are the reproduction covers from the original Gilberton title, although there are several original, vintage covers to be found towards¬† the end of this section.Enjoy!
