Hollywood legend and blue-eyed boy Paul Leonard  Newman (January  1925 – September 2008) was an actor, film-director, entrepreneur, humanitarian, philanthropist & professional racing car driver. For his work on film, he earned an Academy Award for his role as “Fast” Eddie Felson in Martin Scorsese’s “The Colour Of Money” (1986), along with eight other nominations, three Golden Globe awards, a BAFTA, a Screen Actor’s Guild Award, a Cannes Film Festival award, and an Emmy award, amongst many others. In the sport of motor car racing (which he loved) he won major trophies also, but perhaps his most notable achievement came from his ownership of  “Newman’s Own”, a food company producing salad dressings whose post-tax profits and royalties Paul donated to charity; as of June 2012 his donations had exceeded 330 million dollars. He was married (for the second time) to movie star Joanne Woodward, whom he met whilst filming “The Long Hot Summer” together in 1958; they married shortly after and their union lasted for fifty years  until Paul’s death in September 2008.Shunning the Hollywood environment/social scene, the Newmans lived in Westport, Connecticut.Way back in October 1968, this celebrated Hollywood  couple appeared on the cover of “Life” magazine and in a glossy editorial from which some of these photographs are taken.Paul was  a devoted family-man who once famously remarked (regarding his wife) :  “Why go out for a hamburger, when you have steak at home?”; these stunning (and colourful) shots are proof-positive of that statement!
